Cleaning Solutions has compiled this guideline to help you
choose your matting, with the style and colour you want and
the size you need.
Style and Colour
You can get three basic styles of matting: Wiper, Scraper,
or Wiper/Scraper. All the dyes will not bleed. Matting can
be viewed as a filter system where dirt is being filtered
out or prevented from entering the building. Studies indicate
that 95% of the dirt on a floor of any property is tracked
in from outside. The studies further indicate that it costs
approximately $500 to remove a pound of dirt from the property.
Scraper
Scraper mats are designed to remove dirt or debris clinging
to the bottom of the shoes so that the dirt is neither tracked
in nor used to soil or scour the interior floor finishes.
Recessed well mats, and exterior entrance mats are SCRAPER
mats and are usually made of waterproof materials (rubber
or plastic). Often an exterior entrance mat is used when there
is insufficient space in the entry to clean shoes.
Wiper
Wiper mats remove water and finer debris. They tend to show
dirt easier. Examples of these mats in the Prolink line are
Tweed and Plush mats.
Wiper/Scraper
Wiper/Scraper mats do both jobs. Types of these mats in the
Prolink line include Ribbed, Double-V Style, or the Diamond
mats. The ribbing or high-low patterns promote aggressive
shoe cleaning and hide dirt. These mats release the dirt easil
with either shaking or vacuuming.
Size of Mats
Mats are measured width x length. The maximum length is 70
feet. Mats are made either 3 feet, 4 feet, or 6 feet wide.
Required matting that differs from these standards have to
be custom cut such as for elevators or recessed wells.
Mats look best when they are sized according to the property.
Since each property is different, each site can be custom
measured, cut and finished with clean edges. If there are
non-critical pieces required, your staff can measure for the
width and length needed.
Each mat is cut and custom cut and finished for each property.
