Stripping the floor is the operation by which old floor finish
is removed. Here are some basics on stripping, finishing and
maintaining floors:
- Remove furniture and dust mop the floor
- Mix stripping solution as per recommendation. Always remember
to use very hot water. This opens the pores of the floor
surface allowing easier removal of the emulsified wax and
dirt.
- Apply solution to the floor liberally, covering an area
not larger than 10' x 10', then allow to stand for five
minutes, giving the solution time to work.
- Agitate thoroughly with a floor machine with black or
brown floor stripping pad or brush. Go over area two or
three different ways.
- Pick up the soil and cleaning solution with wet pick-up
vacuum or mop. Be sure to pick up all cleaning solution.
- When all solution is removed, rinse the floor two or three
times with cold water. The cold water closes the pores in
the floor, therefore less seal and/or finish will be used.
FOR BEST RESUTLS: A neutralizer should be used. After rinsing
let the floor dry.
- The floor is now ready for the application of a solids
floor finish.
