Stripping the floor is the operation by which old floor finish is removed. Here are some basics on stripping, finishing and maintaining floors:

  1. Remove furniture and dust mop the floor
  2. Mix stripping solution as per recommendation. Always remember to use very hot water. This opens the pores of the floor surface allowing easier removal of the emulsified wax and dirt.
  3. Apply solution to the floor liberally, covering an area not larger than 10' x 10', then allow to stand for five minutes, giving the solution time to work.
  4. Agitate thoroughly with a floor machine with black or brown floor stripping pad or brush. Go over area two or three different ways.
  5. Pick up the soil and cleaning solution with wet pick-up vacuum or mop. Be sure to pick up all cleaning solution.
  6. When all solution is removed, rinse the floor two or three times with cold water. The cold water closes the pores in the floor, therefore less seal and/or finish will be used. FOR BEST RESUTLS: A neutralizer should be used. After rinsing let the floor dry.
  7. The floor is now ready for the application of a solids floor finish.
